“Art” – Theatrical and Visual Tour-de-Force

The Arts — By on January 31, 2007 at 6:09 pm

The University of Scranton Players will be presenting “Art” by Yasmine Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton on February 1 – 4, 2007. In the performance, Serge has just paid a great deal of money for, depending on your perspective, A) a work of art,B) an investment, C) a joke. The argument that ensues between Serge and his friends, Marc and Ivan, regarding art and its theoretical values spills over into matters more personal and private in this 1998 Tony Award winning Best Play. An exhibit titled Exhalted Ephemera/Elemental Form featuring local artists and a discussion exploring the concept of art and its intrinsic values will supplement this production. A reception will follow the opening of the play on Thursday February 1st. Performance times are as follows: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 8:00 p.m., Sunday 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $8 for general admission to $5 for seniors, students, faculty, staff, and children under 12. The painting exhibition will then move to Marywood University’s Kresege Room in the Insalaco Studio Arts Center from February 7th – 23rd.
