In Northeastern Pennsylvania, Labor Day weekend means one thing – the return of La Festa Italiana, the area’s largest celebration of culture and cuisine.

A local tradition since 1975, La Festa Italiana will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, through Monday, Sept. 3, on Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton. Hours are noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Monday.

The event has become famous for its delicious dishes, with more than 60 vendors offering a wide variety of the finest Italian cuisine cooked and served fresh daily. But festival-goers will also enjoy live music and entertainment performed all day long, each day of the festival, as well as displays and vendors celebrating the best of Italian culture.
And a Mass in Italian will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday in St. Peter’s Cathedral, located one block from the festival site. For more information or directions, visit
