Downtown Scranton business owners are hoping to make Saturday the busiest day of the week with a new Second Saturday event. Why not Rediscover Scranton for yourself and see what the buzz is about?

Members of the Scranton Business Alliance have organized the first ever Second Saturday event, set for Saturday, May 10. Falling just a day before Mother’s Day, the event features several activities designed to help celebrate Mom’s special day. Scranton Community Concerts will present the show “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. The show goes on Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m. at Lackawanna College’s Mellow Theater and participating Second Saturday businesses will offer vouchers for a discounted ticket.

Third Gallery, 222 Linden Street, will host an opening for the new show, “Devotion: Creating Begins Here,” which celebrates the love between mother and child. Silver on Spruce, 128 North Washington Avenue, will give out a free flower to every mom that comes in the store and any mother visiting Downtown Fitness Center, 117 Wyoming Avenue, will receive a free day pass.

Anthology New & Used Books and Outrageous, 515 Center Street, will raffle off a “Mother’s Bell” sterling silver necklace and Northern Light Espresso Bar, 534 Spruce Street, will feature delicious food prepared by personal chef Jeffrey Diaz and free beverages for Mom. Other participating businesses offering Mother’s Day special deals include Lavish, 600 Linden Street; Nada & Co., 137 Wyoming Avenue; Duffy Accessories, 218 Linden Street; NOW Hair Studio, 132 Adams Avenue; Pastry & Petals, 540 Spruce Street.

The May event will also include a raffle to benefit the Women’s Resource Center (WRC). For a cost of just $1 a ticket, downtown visitors have a chance to win prizes like personal chef services from Dinner is Served; two tickets to Scranton Community Concerts; a Miller Rogaska Soleil Crystal Bowl from Helen Schwartz Gifts; a one-month membership to the Downtown Fitness Center; a gift basket from Bella Faccias Personalized Chocolates & Gifts; gift certificates to Silver on Spruce, NOW Hair Studio, AtHome America and Northern Light Espresso Bar; and more. All of the proceeds from the raffle go to the WRC. Michael’s Luxury Eyewear, 530 Spruce Street; Helen Schwartz Gifts, 300 Spruce Street; and Occasions will also each donate a percentage of sales that day to the WRC.

The Scranton Plan, the industrial marketing arm of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and community leaders launched Rediscover Scranton to promote and strengthen greater Scranton’s quality of life and business assets. Through Rediscover Scranton, volunteers are identifying and contacting accomplished people with ties to greater Scranton, informing them about economic, quality of living, and growth opportunities, and encouraging them to relocate their businesses and families to the area.
