15 Resources for Enjoying Winter in NEPA

There’s no reason to stay indoors during the winter in Northeastern Pennsylvania. When the temperatures drop, there’s still plenty to do and see around the area. Here’s our guide to making the most of the winter months.

Ski Resorts

The best place to start when thinking winter fun around Northeastern Pennsylvania is one of our ski areas. The Poconos have gained a reputation for some of the best slopes in the state but all of our local ski resorts offer skier and snowboarders great skiing all winter long.

Ice Skating/Hockey

The Ice Box has two locations in Northeastern Pennsylvania – Scranton and Pittston – both with plenty of options for ice skating and hockey along with clinics, youth teams and more.

Ice Harvest Festival

On Saturday, January 17, Steamtown National Historic Site will offer a steam excursion to will travel to the annual Ice Harvest Demonstration in Tobyhanna, courtesy of the Lackawanna Valley Heritage Valley Authority. Visit Mill Pond #1, where historic tools and equipment will be used to gather blocks of ice from the pond.

Penguins Hockey

Check out the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, local affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and see the NHL stars of the future.

Scranton Ski Club

Join the Scranton Ski Club and meet fellow local snow enthusiasts and take advantage of group discounts to area resorts.

Cross-Country Skiing
