Start Your Holiday Weekend with First Friday

First Friday Scranton Map July 2009Some businesses may have the day off, but the First Friday art walk is definitely on this Friday, July 3, from 6-8 p.m.

Start your Independence Day weekend off right with a walk through 22 different venues around Downtown Scranton displaying the works of talented local artists.

Some of the exhibits you won’t want to miss this month include eMAC Designs handmade jewelry featuring found and recycled items by Emily Machovec at Outrageous, 515 Center St.; “A Winning Combination”: watercolor, pastel and oil by Joanne Benson, Phyllis Rennie and Maryann Williams at Creedon’s Flower Shop, 323 N. Washington Ave.; “Natural Construct” : Photography by Amy Ahearn and Michael Meyer at AFA Gallery, 514 Lackawanna Ave.; and “On the Surface”: Photography by Bernd Reinhardt and Giancarlo Mori in the Camerawork Gallery at Marquis Art & Frame, 515 Center St.

Music this month will include Brenda Fernandes at Anthology Books, 515 Center St.; Jim Cullen at City Cafe, 309 N. Washington Ave.; Harmony Constant at The Crazy Pineapple, 317 Linden St.; Tony Vergenetti at Dionysus Downtown, 244 Penn Ave.; Gallucci Music students at Gallucci Music, 224 Wyoming Ave.; John Carpenetti at GreenBeing, 334 Adams Ave.; Daiyana Rodriquez at The MAC, 123 Wyoming Ave.; Paul Martin at Northern Light Espresso Bar, 536 Spruce St.; and Kid Icarus performing at Piazza dell’ Arte on Courthouse Square.

Perennial overachievers St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave., will host “A Celebration & Tribute to Our Military Forces!” in honor of the Fourth of July holiday. St. Luke’s will offer a displays of “Independence Day”
works by Keystone Community Resources – PEP Program and of military memorabilia provided by St. Luke’s Parishioners; artwork by local artists Keelin Evans, Leslie Bacinelli, Cayla Boezi and Corey Lucas; free blood pressure
screenings by Hospice of the Sacred Heart; and a drum circle with Michael Kenny.
